Rules and first moves
How to play Hashi
Link the numbered islands with bridges until every number is met and all islands connect.
The rules
- Match the number. An island’s number is how many bridges touch it.
- One or two bridges. A bridge runs straight to the next island in its row or column. No pair of islands has more than two.
- No crossings. Bridges never cross each other or pass over an island.
- One network. Every island connects to every other.
First moves
- A corner 4 sends two bridges each way, because it has only two neighbours.
- A 6 on an edge sends two bridges in each of its three directions. An 8 in the open sends two in all four.
- Watch the 1s. Joining two 1s closes a finished pair that can never reach the rest.
