How to play Slant.
Put one diagonal line in every cell, match the numbered corners and never make a closed loop.
Two choices per cell: every square contains either / or \.
How the clues work
A number sits on a corner shared by up to four cells. It tells you exactly how many diagonals must touch that corner. A 0 rejects every touching diagonal; a fully surrounded 4 requires all four.
The no-loop rule
Even when every number is satisfied, the connected diagonal lines may not form a closed circuit. If one placement would close a loop, the cell must lean the other way.
Good first moves
Fill corners with 0 clues first, then maximum clues such as a corner 1, edge 2 or centre 4. After each placement, reduce the remaining count around nearby clues. The puzzle becomes easier when you treat each line as information for several corners at once.
Play a board
A real Slant board, playable here. Tap a cell to cycle blank, ╲, ╱. Break a rule and the page says which one, because that is the fastest way to learn it.
- Fill every cell. Each one takes exactly one diagonal.
- Match the numbers. A number counts the diagonal ends touching that dot.
- Never close a loop. The diagonals must not form one anywhere on the grid.
